URI is proud to be a cosponsor of the 24-hour global Golden Rule Day webcast!
In a divided world full of conflict and mistrust, a grassroots movement has emerged to remind every person on the planet that we share one thing in common — the Golden Rule: Treat others and the Planet as you would like to be treated. This is a universal principle shared by nearly all cultural, spiritual, religious, and secular traditions on Earth.
Golden Rule Day has been celebrated since 2007 by 700 organizations in 140 countries. This year, global organizations and spiritual and religious leaders around the world are teaming up to remind us all that the Golden Rule still matters. This year, three organizations – the United Religions Initiative, the Charter for Compassion and the Golden Rule Project (both organizations are members of URI) – and spiritual and religious leaders around the world are teaming up to remind us all that the Golden Rule still matters.
Join us on Thursday, April 5, for a 24-hour global virtual celebration of the Golden Rule, a universal principle shared by nearly all cultural, spiritual, religious, and secular traditions on Earth.
Over the course of 24 hours, people from many corners of the world will address “Why the Golden Rule Matters Now” as they share how people, organizations and governments can use this Common Principle to create a better world for everyone.
Several URI members will be contributing programming, including three from the US (Camp Anytown, Interfaith Council of Southern Nevada, and the Arizona Interfaith Movement), five from the Multiregion (Contemplative Life, Pato Baton’s Spiritual Family, Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons, Compassion for All Living Beings, Faiths Without Borders) and two from the URI Southern Africa region (GOAL Trust and Capetown Interfaith Initiative). Several URI leaders – Executive Director Rev. Victor Kazanjian, Founder Bishop Bill Swing, Global Council Chair Kiran Bali and Golden Rule Ambassador and Global Envoy for URI Mussie Hailu – will also be sharing as part of the Golden Rule Day webcast.
“The Golden Rule is the foundation that underpins the work of the United Religions Initiative’s nearly 1,000 Cooperation Circle member organizations in 104 countries,” said The Rev. Victor Kazanjian, Executive Director of United Religions Initiative. “They are applying the Golden Rule every day as we work together to build a more compassionate and just world – with and for people of all religions, spiritual expressions and Indigenous traditions. This webcast provides us with a wonderful opportunity to hear the stories of the amazing things that happen when people apply the Golden Rule and to take time to reflect on what more we can do to live and spread the Golden Rule all around the world.”
Golden Rule Ambassador Mussie Hailu, founding member of URI who is currently serving as Global Envoy for URI and Regional Director of URI-Africa said, “For a culture of peace, inter-religious & inter-cultural harmony, respect among nations, human dignity and social justice to prevail on Earth, it is high time to promote the teaching of the Golden Rule.” Click here to read more about why Mussi believe’s the Golden Rule is needed now more than ever.
